The endless of question of how to get money while traveling. Fortunately in the day of ATMs it is a lot easier than it used to be. Most of the places you are going to be traveling will have ATM machines. However, if you are on the third world circuit, it may be worth investigating your specific country or region further. We have had a lot of luck traveling with US dollars. As a generalization they are accepted in most places for exchange...and sometimes as local currency! From personal experience we have also been able to exchange British pounds and Euros. However, we have had issues with Aussie dollars in some locations. The best thing is to have a variety of options - Some cash - preferably US dollars (small bills for third world countries), Travelers Checks and some sort of ATM/Credit Card (Check out Tripplus travel card below!).

Travelers Checks American Express Travelers Checks
Some people travel with them as backup for their cash and credit cards. They are great because if you loose them or if they get stolen you can put in a claim for your money. However, the downside is that some places do not accept them.
Credit Cards There is always a big debate about the best type of credit card to travel on. In general, we have found that Visa or MasterCard are widly accepted. However, keep in mind that credit cards in general may not be widly accepted in third world countries!
If you are $$$Comfortable or $$$$Big Spender then American Express will probably be your primary choice because of their travel services. However, they are not accepted everywhere due to their merchant fees.
