Architecture Jaisalmer is a dream-like 12th century town of narrow winding streets surrounded by a fort in the middle of the Thar desert. Explore the town and find intricately carved mansions, called havelis, which were built by wealthy merchants during the town's heyday, as well as uniquely beautiful Jain temples. This place is a bit out of the way, which makes it much more pleasant than the more touristy parts of Rajasthan.
