Activities & Experiences
Dining & Drinking
Try Cherney Pivo (dark beer).
Eastern European food has much to be desired. As a vego it was down to fried cheese (shamzny seer ), but Prague has some amazing vegie restaurants and cool expat joints when you need some tasty food - Radost FX, Globe, Pizarria Rugantino, Country Life, Adonas, Cornicopia, U Govinda, Joes, Derby.

Music
If it still exists - U Maleho Glennas had an old wine cellar that was transformed into a room where they would hold jam sessions. In the Spring all of the beautiful churches have classical concerts. It was such an amazing location to sit and listen.

Pubs & Bars
There are tons of trendy expat bars. Great atmosphere. The big ones at the time I was there were - Roxy, Rubens, Bar under James Joyce.

Architecture
I'm not a big Architecture buff, but the buildings in Prague seduce you. There are so beautiful to look at. I used to take long walks early in the morning over the Charles Bridge and silhouette of the city skyline was transfixing. I used to feel like I was transported back to Kind Arthur's period.

Weather
The winters in Prague are brutal, but the city is not overtaken at that time. I recommend going over winter so you can get a taste of Prague. Once the nice weather comes it brings hords of tourists and they are hard to get around.

Historical Sites
The Jewish quarter is not to be missed. It is facinating and disturbing.

Transportation
When you ride the trans and metro ALWAYS HAVE A TICKET. The tickets are dirt cheap...when I was there it was only 7 kronos. But if you get caught without a ticket you get a huge fine and they target tourists. One time I tried to buy a ticket for Tony, but the machines were broken so we bought a different ticket for the same price. We of course got stopped and they tried to fine Tony. I caused a huge fuss and tried with my best Czech to explain the situation. The ticket guy brought us to a hotel to get a translator. After an hour of arguing we finally wore him out and he let us off, but it was an ordeal.
If you are there as a student there is a special cheap ticket you can get monthly for the trans and metro.
When coming into Czech Republic by train try to have some Czech Kronos with you. There used to be two fees - one in Kronos and one in US $. It was almost 6 times as much in US$.

University Exchange Programs
I went to Prague with CIE and studied at Charles University my junior year abroad. It was a great excuse to be in abroad. The classes were a joke except for our Czech language class. We stayed in a dorm up the hill beyond the castle. I was with a group of American students and we had a blast partying our way through Prague. I also spent most weekends traveling by train all over Eastern & Western Europe. Prague is so central so I went everywhere.

Safety
Generally I felt safe. But there are tons of pick pockets. The soccer matches were full of skin-heads...not exactly the most peaceful crowd.

Three essentials for India:
GET YOUR VISA ORGANIZED AHEAD OF TIME.  The Embassy wait can be brutal!

A-Z of Adventure Travel Insurance from World Nomads as you will probably get "Delhi Belly."

Hostelworld was a great help for finding cheap, but decent accommodation in India!
