So this month, like everyone else, I was inspired by the Olympics! Many CPB members have traveled through there and have some pretty amazing stories to share. Although, I have very mixed experiences of the country - loved Shanghai, hated Beijing - I am still intrigued to go back and see other parts. Here are two CPB members in the Spotlight with incredible China stories to tell:

Is it possible to travel through China without a tour?

Marti - Absolutely! We traveled locally and booked our train/bus as we went. There are hostels and cheap accommodation everywhere. I suggest you look at Kimbo's writing about her travels through China.

The Uighurs call it Kashgar, and the Chinese call it Kashi (they can't say the R). Regardless, it is a three thousand year old silk road city that for centuries has been marked by trade for horses, jade, and of course silk. China's claim to Kashgar is somewhat tenuous, as the majority people are Uighurs (Muslim ethnic Turks). However, decades of Chinese intervention and westward migration means that Mao (at least physically) looms largely over these people.more
